چکیده
Abstract Purpose Measurements of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) lactate can aid in detecting infections the central nervous system and surrounding structures. Neurosurgical patients with temporary lumbar or ventricular CSF drainage harbor an increased risk for developing system, which require immediate therapeutic responses. Since blood gas analyzers enable rapid blood-lactate measurements, we were interested finding out if reliably measure CSF-lactate by this point-of-care technique. Methods on our intensive care unit (ICU) either external due to a variety reasons included prospective observational study. Standard measurements leucocyte counts, total protein neurochemical laboratory University Medical Center twice week. With respect study, additionally performed nearly daily determine reliability measured as compared standard certified device. Results 62 We 514 180 these in-house measurements. Both techniques correlated highly significantly (Pearson correlation index 0.94) even though lacking full concordance Bland–Altman plotting. Of particular importance, regular enabled detection infection three who had developed meningitis during course their treatment. Conclusion Blood sufficient help timely meningitis. In addition triggering established diagnostics, may improve surveillance drainage. This study was retrospectively registered April 20th 2020 German trial register. The registration number is DRKS00021466.

Estimation of Lactate Dehydrogenase Activity in cerebrospinal fluid in different types of meningitis
Objective: Meningitis is life-threatening condition and examination of the Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) may not give a precise diagnosis and prognosis of different types of meningitis. Bacterial meningitis is still a very common problem especially in many developing countries. The aims of study are to estimate the importance and significance of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), protein...
متن کاملDetection of Herpes Simplex Virus Infection in Cerebrospinal Fluid
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Herpes simplex encephalitis is a life-threatening consequence of the central nervous system (CNS) infection with Herpes simplex virus (HSV). Although it is a rare disease, mortality rates reach 70% in the absence of therapy and only a minority of individuals can return to normal function. The aim of this study was to d...
متن کاملDETECTION OF CRYPTOCOCCUS NEOFORMANS BY SEMINESTED PCR IN CEREBROSPINAL FLUID
ABSTRACT Life-threatening infections caused by the encapsulated fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans have been increasing steadily over the past 10 years. Cryptococcus neoformans is recognized as the most frequent fungal infection of the central nervous system (CNS) in immunocompetent as well as immunocompromised patients. We report the development of a semi-nested- PCR-based assay for the ...

متن کاملDETECTION OF HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZAE TYPE B IN CEREBROSPINAL FLUID OF SUSPECTED CHILDREN WITH MENINGITIS BYPCR
ABSTRACT Background: A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay with primers from "hpd" gene was compared with culture for the detection of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) in CSF samples from children suspected of meningitis. Methods: 300 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from suspected meningitis cases were studied by culture (Leventhal & Chocolate Agar) and PCR. Results: The latter...
